Mining FAQs
What mining roles do you recruit for?
We recruit technical and professional mining roles, permanent and contract, across WA.
That includes roles such as geologists (resource, mine, exploration, grade control), mining and geotechnical engineers, surveyors, GIS specialists, Environmental Advisors and hydrogeologists.
We don't do operators, trades or general labour hire, so if that's what you need we're not the right fit.
Our focus is the technical people who are hardest to find and most costly to get wrong.
How quickly can you fill a mining role?
It depends on the role and how tight the market is, but for a mid-level geologist you're often looking at a week or two to a shortlist, and longer for senior or niche positions.
Rather than give you an optimistic timeframe, we'll tell you honestly at the start how hard the role will be to fill.
Where a role is genuinely difficult, we'll say so and explain why, instead of taking it on and going quiet.
Do you cover FIFO and contract roles?
Yes. Most WA mining roles we handle are FIFO or have a FIFO component, and mining is the area where we recruit both permanent and contract staff.
We're upfront with candidates about roster, point of hire and site conditions from the start, which means you lose fewer people late in the process over details that should have been clear early on
How do you find candidates other agencies can't?
We work in a narrow, specialist area and know the technical people in it, so a lot of our candidates come through direct approaches and relationships rather than job ads.
The strongest technical people are usually already employed and not applying for anything, so finding them is about knowing who they are and being able to have a credible conversation about a move.
That's easier when you actually understand the work, which is the point of using a specialist.
Why use a specialist mining recruiter instead of a big agency?
Because a specialist understands your roles and only runs a handful at a time, so yours gets proper attention.
A large generalist agency covering every sector can't know the difference between a resource geologist and a grade control geologist the way someone who works only in resources does.
You also deal with us directly, not a call centre or a junior learning on your vacancy. For hard-to-fill technical roles, that depth is usually what makes the difference.
How do you screen and check candidates before I see them?
We assess the technical fit properly, not just the CV: relevant experience for the commodity and deposit, tickets and right to work, roster fit, and references.
The aim is that everyone you interview is genuinely worth your time. If someone looks good on paper but isn't right for your site or team, we'd rather tell you than pad out a shortlist.
How do your fees work?
For Permanent roles, we work either on contingency (where you only pay on a successful placement), or retained (where there's an upfront commitment for harder or more senior searches).
Which one suits depends on the role and how difficult it's likely to be. We'll talk you through the options rather than push you towards one, and we don't quote a percentage here because it varies with the brief.
For Contract roles, we charge a mark up on top of the candidates rate to cover Insurances, Payroll Tax, Admin costs and our fee.
What happens if the person doesn't work out?
There's a guarantee period on permanent placements, so if it goes wrong early on you're covered.
We'd rather get the hire right first time, which is why we're careful about who we put forward, but the guarantee is there as a backup.
Do you recruit across all WA mining regions and commodities?
Yes. We recruit for roles across WA, from Perth-based technical positions to FIFO roles in the Pilbara, Goldfields and beyond, and across commodities including iron ore, gold, lithium and others.
What matters more than the location or commodity is whether it's a technical or professional role, which is our focus.
Tell us where the role is and we'll tell you honestly how the market looks for it.
Can you give me salary and market advice, even if I'm not hiring yet?
Yes, and there's no obligation. We're happy to talk through what people are actually being paid, how realistic a role is to fill, and what the market looks like for a particular skill set.
It's often worth having that conversation before you advertise, so your role is pitched right and you're not surprised by what it takes to attract the right person.
