Lead high-quality subterranean fauna and SRE programs that shape approvals and project design.

My client is a WA-focused, employee-owned consultancy with a practical, low-ego culture. You will take a senior role delivering and signing off on subterranean fauna (stygofauna and troglofauna) and Short-Range Endemic (SRE) invertebrate assessments across mining, infrastructure and land development, with hands-on fieldwork when needed.

About the Role

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role. You will scope, design and deliver subterranean fauna and SRE studies, lead baseline and impact assessments, oversee sampling and QA/QC, manage taxonomic and laboratory subcontractors, and translate findings into clear constraints, risks and mitigation. You will prepare robust reports to support Part IV and Part V approvals (and EPBC referrals where relevant), mentor biologists, and build trusted relationships with clients and regulators. Fieldwork is part of the job, but the focus is on quality science and sound advice.

About You

  • 10–15 years’ experience in biological survey/EIA with a strong focus on subterranean fauna and/or SRE invertebrates
  • Deep knowledge of WA EPA technical guidance for Subterranean Fauna and SRE surveys, and strong understanding of approvals pathways
  • Proven leadership of multi-site survey programs, including HSE, logistics and contractor management
  • Strong identification/assessment capability (morphology and working with taxonomists; eDNA/metabarcoding exposure valued)
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills; confident with GIS/spatial outputs and databases
  • Excellent report writing, client communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Able to mentor staff, contribute to proposals and help shape team standards
  • Current C-class driver’s licence; comfortable with periodic fieldwork

What’s in it for You?

  • Senior leadership remit with technical sign-off and real influence
  • Diverse work across mining, linear infrastructure and land development
  • Hybrid working and flexible arrangements from a Perth base
  • Support for professional development and certifications
  • Fieldwork support, well-planned programs and a collaborative team
  • Competitive salary package
