My client is an environmental consultancy with a strong client base, a full order book, and teams covering ecology, bushfire, GIS, sustainability and approvals.
They're now looking for a Principal Botanist to lead the technical side of their flora and vegetation work and help grow the ecology team.
They are looking for a strong technical operator who enjoys mentoring people, signing off quality work, and being the person others come to with the hard flora questions.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading flora and vegetation surveys, from reconnaissance through to detailed assessments
- Vegetation mapping, condition assessment and targeted threatened flora surveys
- Writing and reviewing reports
- Providing QA/QC and technical sign-off across the team's botanical work
- Mentoring and developing the botanists around you
- Working closely with clients, mostly on residential and industrial development projects
What they're after:
- A degree in botany, ecology, environmental science or similar
- Around 15 years' consulting experience (but also open to senior or associate-level candidates)
- Excellent WA flora ID skills, ideally including the Swan Coastal Plain and Jarrah Forest
- Good working knowledge of regulations such as the EPBC Act, EP Act, BC Act and EPA guidance
- Someone who genuinely likes growing and looking after a team
- Current WA driver's licence
What's in it for you:
- Good salary of around $140,000 - $170,000 + super, negotiable on experience
- Paid time in lieu for overtime - taks as annual leave or pay
- Work that keeps you home at night
- The chance to help shape a young, growing consultancy
If you're a botanist who's tired of chasing work and would rather get back to doing great technical work and bringing a team along with you, this is worth a look.
