A well funded exploration company is looking for a hands on Senior Geologist to take the lead on diamond drilling campaigns and help drive the next phase of discovery. This will suit someone who is happy in the field, confident managing rigs and geos, and keen to be close to the rocks rather than stuck behind a desk.
The opportunity
You will play a key role in planning and running campaign style exploration programs in South America, typically in blocks of 3 to 4 weeks at a time. Working closely with an experienced leadership team, you will be given the responsibility and autonomy to get things done, backed by the budget to support it.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, manage and oversee diamond drilling programs from start to finish
- Supervise, mentor and coordinate geologists and field staff
- Log core, interpret geology and feed results into ongoing targeting
- Work closely with drilling contractors to ensure safe, efficient operations
- Contribute to geological models, targeting and reporting
- Support continuous improvement in field and drilling practices
About you
- BSc in Geology (or equivalent)
- Solid diamond drilling experience in exploration environments
- Proven experience managing drilling programs and drill contractors
- Background supervising and supporting junior geologists
- Experience with copper projects would be highly regarded
- Experience with Micromine or similar geological software is an advantage
- Comfortable working in South America on campaign style programs (3–4 weeks at a time)
- Ability to speak Spanish is highly regarded (but not essential)
