Senior Botanist

If you’re a botanist who enjoys leading surveys, producing quality reports, and mentoring others — and you’d like a role that fits around life — this is worth a look. You will join a supportive ecology team working across WA, with surveys focused in the Perth/south-west region. Flexible options are available (including part time) and there’s a clear path into leadership for those who want it.

About the Role

Lead and coordinate reconnaissance, detailed and targeted botanical surveys; identify flora in situ and from specimens using taxonomic keys and herbarium resources; collect, manage and analyse floristic data to classify vegetation and interpret results; work with GIS specialists to prepare spatial datasets and maps; prepare clear, accurate technical reports (flora/vegetation assessments, monitoring, EIAs); provide ecological advice to clients and project teams; and mentor junior staff and contribute to training and standards.

About You (Essential)
 

• Tertiary qualifications in Botany or Environmental Science
• Around 6 - 10 years’ experience in WA botanical consulting
• Strong knowledge of WA vegetation types
• Demonstrated taxonomic expertise and confident use of keys/herbarium resources
• Proficient in data analysis, including floristic analysis
• High standard of written and verbal communication
• Experience planning and leading surveys in line with relevant guidelines
• Current C-class driver’s licence
• Permanent working rights in Australia
