We’re working with a specialist consultancy known for its deep expertise in aquatic ecosystems, invertebrate taxonomy, and biodiversity management who are now looking for a Senior Aquatic Ecologist to join their team in Perth.

The role would suit someone who enjoys fieldwork, taxonomy, and wants to be part of a collaborative, values-driven team. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the direction of a high-performing, well-respected group of freshwater ecologists.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, field-focused consulting role based in Perth with options for part-time or full-time work, depending on what suits you best.

You’ll work across all aspects of project delivery from planning and fieldwork through to data analysis, reporting, and client communication. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior staff and building the team’s capability in aquatic ecology, particularly invertebrate taxonomy.

About You

 

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in consulting or academic aquatic ecology
  • WA experience in freshwater ecosystems, ideally including experience in the Pilbara and / or Kimberley
  • Skilled in aquatic invertebrate ID to species level using taxonomic keys
  • Confident leading field programs in remote areas for extended periods
  • Knowledge of water quality, sediment, and biotic monitoring techniques
  • Strong statistical analysis and technical reporting skills
  • Excellent communication and project management capabilities
  • Physically fit and comfortable in 4WD conditions
