They are now looking for a Principal Ecologist / Zoologist to join their Perth office and play a key role in leading complex zoological work across WA.
You’ll be part of a national ecology network and work alongside a multi-disciplinary group of botanists, zoologists and environmental scientists. Projects span infrastructure, renewable energy and local government, and you’ll be trusted to lead from the front - technically and commercially.
The Role
This is a senior consulting position with real autonomy and influence. You will lead and deliver complex fauna surveys, assessments and research projects, provide trusted advice to clients and regulators, and help grow the ecology function in WA.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, lead and manage large-scale fauna surveys and ecological assessments
- Provide expert advice on threatened species, biodiversity offsets and wildlife management
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, proposals and presentations
- Engage with clients, regulatory authorities and key stakeholders
- Mentor and develop junior ecologists
- Contribute to business development and tender submissions
- Keep across current research, regulatory updates and best practice in zoology and conservation
About You
You’ll likely come from a consulting background and have solid experience undertaking ecological assessments across Western Australia’s bioregions. You’re comfortable leading complex work, managing stakeholders, and backing your technical judgement in front of clients and regulators.
You will also bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in zoology, ecology or environmental science
- Extensive WA fauna survey and ecological consulting experience
- Strong project management capability, delivering complex projects on time and within budget
- Proven leadership experience (mentoring, team development, and dealing with challenges when they come up)
- Strong knowledge of ecological principles and WA/Commonwealth environmental legislation
- Capability across survey design, fieldwork, data analysis (including statistical packages) and impact assessment methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presenting findings
- Business development / client management / proposal writing experience (highly regarded)
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required
