Details:

My client is a privately owned, Perth-based business delivering fixed plant asset management services to WA's mining sector. Operating since 2009, they support mining companies across reliability engineering, planning and scheduling, shutdown and maintenance support, and skilled workforce solutions. The business has grown steadily over many years and is now looking to appoint an experienced senior HR professional to take ownership of the HR and payroll function, leading a team of three and working closely with operational leadership across the business.

The Opportunity

This is a genuine end-to-end HR leadership role covering the full employee lifecycle across a largely blue-collar, site-based workforce. You will be hands-on in the day-to-day operation of the department while also contributing strategically around workforce planning, retention, systems, compliance and process improvement. Mining or construction experience is considered essential. This role sits within an operational environment with site crews, shutdowns, workforce movement, payroll complexity and industrial relations challenges that are very different from a purely corporate HR setting. The role includes regular site travel across WA (approximately seven nights per month), strong executive support, and genuine ownership of the function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment, onboarding and workforce mobilisation
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, grievances and workplace disputes
  • Lead performance management and appraisal processes across the business
  • Oversee payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant and timely processing
  • Manage workers compensation claims, return-to-work processes and rehabilitation coordination
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, modern awards and employment legislation
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures and employment documentation
  • Oversee WHS and injury management processes in conjunction with operations
  • Provide HR and payroll reporting to senior management
  • Lead, mentor and support a team of three direct reports
  • Contribute to workforce planning, retention and succession planning initiatives

About You

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior HR generalist or HR management role within mining, construction or heavy industry
  • Strong payroll experience with attention to detail and understanding of award interpretation and compliance
  • Solid background in employee relations, performance management and workplace investigations
  • Strong understanding of the Fair Work Act, modern awards and Australian employment legislation
  • Experience managing workers compensation, injury management and WHS processes
  • Previous experience leading and developing a small HR/payroll team
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline preferred
  • Perth-based with willingness to travel to site approximately seven nights per month

This role will suit someone who:

  • Enjoys working in an operational, fast-moving environment rather than a heavily corporate structure
  • Can balance people management with strong compliance and process discipline
  • Is pragmatic, commercially minded and confident dealing with difficult issues when required
  • Wants genuine ownership and influence within a growing business

What's on Offer

  • $200,000+ salary package
  • Attractive performance bonus structure
  • Weekly pay cycle
  • Permanent full-time role based in Belmont
  • Leadership responsibility for an established HR/payroll team
  • Long-term role within a stable and growing WA business
