Details:
My client is a well-established, specialist Geochemistry focused consultancy servicing the mining and resources sector in Australia and internationally.
They are not a big multidisciplinary firm where geochemistry is a side offering. It is what they do, and they are recognised globally for it and have longstanding relationships and repeat business with a range of clients due to quality work and reputation. They have been around for decades and developed a number of the test methods now used across the industry.
Due to their strong forward pipeline of contracted work, they are expanding and are currently recruiting several geochemists at various levels from Graduate to Senior.
What you would be doing
- Geochemical assessments of mine and infrastructure projects, from compiling geological and assay data through to interpreting what it means for materials management and closure
- Designing sampling programmes, then preparing and managing the laboratory test programmes that follow
- Assessing ARD and NMD potential and building the management plans around it
- Contributing to project approvals, PRCP submissions and closure plans
- Working across the full project life, from exploration and feasibility through operations to closure, rather than being stuck at one stage
- Site visits and field sampling
- Supporting the water services team on hydrology and hydrogeology work
- Writing the technical reports that go to clients and regulators
What you will need
- A degree in geology, chemistry, environmental geochemistry or similar
- Experience in environmental consulting or with a mining company
- An understanding of material characterisation, including static and kinetic leachate data
- Good technical writing
- Experience in software such as PHREEQC or similar, and GIS, are useful but not essential
My client is flexible on background and whilst Geology or chemistry is the usual route, they have people who came in from other backgrounds - time on a mine site, and understanding how a site actually runs, is highly regarded.
You also do not need to have been a consultant - if you are doing this work inside a mining company and fancy the move, they are interested in chatting.
What's on offer
- Good salary, negotiable depending on your experience (call for a confidential chat)
- An annual bonus on top of base salary, at every level
- Perth or Brisbane ideally (other locations also considered)
- Real international work. They operate in more than 30 countries and are not constrained by geography, so a Perth-based geochemist might spend time on projects in Asia or Africa
- Multi-commodity work with clients ranging from juniors to the majors, so you are not tied to one commodity or one account
- They are expanding, including a new arm overseas, so there is room to move up rather than wait for someone to retire
- A clear graded structure, so you know what the next step up looks like and what it takes to get there
- Their service lines are shaped by the people they hire. If you are strong in something and there is a business case, they will back you to build it
- Specialists around you, including several PhD-level people, and an in-house ARD laboratory
- Genuine technical mentoring from people who have spent their whole careers in this niche
- Small enough that you are not a number. Direct access to the principals and a real say in how the work gets done
- Plenty of the work is advice, interpretation and building management plans with clients, not just sitting behind a bench
- City based, not FIFO or residential. Site travel comes up a few times a year, in blocks of a week or two
- Hybrid working with set office days, and support for conferences, professional development and training
- A friendly, relaxed environment and a genuinely good team culture
- A well-established, stable and growing company with an exciting pipeline of work ahead
