Looking for a leadership role that’s less about chargeable hours and more about people, structure, and keeping a good team running smoothly?
I’m working with a well-established environmental consultancy that’s looking to appoint an Environmental Team Leader—someone to play a central role in supporting a busy technical team day-to-day. You won’t be stuck behind a spreadsheet all day, but this isn’t a technical consulting position either. It’s more of a “team parent” role—keeping things on track, helping the wheels turn, and being the go-to person for all the bits that make a consultancy tick.
This could suit someone from an environmental, biological, or consulting background who's keen to move away from billable work. It might also suit a Practice Manager, Ops Coordinator, or HR-savvy administrator who understands how consultancies operate. Emotional intelligence, a calm head, and strong organisational skills are more important than qualifications.
What you’ll be doing:
- Scheduling, resourcing and leave coordination
- Helping with onboarding, mobilisations, booking travel, and expenses
- Organising First Aid, medicals, D&A testing
- Supporting the team with admin, fatigue management, and general wellbeing
- Maintaining compliance: HSEQ systems, licensing, documentation
- Supporting performance reviews and dealing with minor HR or conflict resolution
- Running the weekly team meeting and attending monthly management meetings
- Light support with invoicing and project resourcing
- Encouraging others to think about BD—occasional event attendance or client visits
- General people care—keeping morale up, smoothing out issues, being a friendly and trusted go-to
About you:
- Ideally 10–15 years’ experience, with some time in an environmental or consulting setting
- Strong communication and team leadership qualities
- Organised, approachable, emotionally intelligent
- Able to juggle multiple priorities and stay calm under pressure
- Background in project coordination, team leadership, or operations/admin in a professional services business
- Comfortable running meetings, dealing with occasional people challenges, and keeping things compliant
What’s on offer:
- Flexible work arrangements – open to part-time or reduced hours
- Supportive, close-knit team with a good culture
- Social events and a positive, down-to-earth atmosphere
- Based in Fremantle, close to public transport
- Bike-friendly, with end-of-trip facilities
- Genuine work-life balance and freedom from chargeability pressure
